Fall 2009 Parnassus Submissions Are Open!
The posters are up, and the submission box is out; it's time again to call for Parnassus submissions! Our deadline this semester is Monday, November 30th. Any active NECC students are welcome to submit as much short fiction, poetry, creative non fiction, art, or photography in consideration for publishing in the 2010 Parnassus. If you didn't already know, Parnassus is currently in the top ten of all collegiate literary arts magazines, and we're first place in the East as well - this is a great resume piece and something to be really proud of. Submit today!

2009 Parnassus "Sold Out" for the fall!
The 2009 issue of Parnassus has officially "sold out" for the fall semester. Over 500 free copies have flown off of the rack since the start of the fall semester, and we're all out for now. More copies will be available at our rack in the C Building lobby at the start of the spring semester in January. Special requests for copies can be fulfilled before January by contacting Faculty Advisor Patrick Lochelt:

2009 Parnassus Announced as First Place Winner in the Eastern Division in the CCHA Awards!
The 2009 issue of Parnassus has just been announced as the First Place winner of the Eastern Division of the Community College Humanities Association in their prestigious and highly competitive annual national literary magazine awards competition. This is the second consecutive year that Parnassus has won an award from the CCHA, as our 2008 edition won Second Place in the Eastern Division last year. We are once again incredibly honored to be chosen amongst the best community college literary magazines, and we thank all of those at the CCHA for this amazing award. Many kudos to all involved with the 2009 Parnassus - this award is yours, too!
Many extended congratulations to Spindrift Art and Literary Journal from Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, WA, which took First Place in the Nation in the CCHA awards. Congrats also to all the other lit mags that placed this year as well.

2009 Parnassus Announced as Finalist for Prestigious ACP Pacemaker Award
The 2009 issue of Parnassus has just been announced as a finalist for the very prestigious Pacemaker award from the Associated Collegiate Press for collegiate literary magazines, as judged by the American Poetry Journal. Congratulations to the nine other colleges (both two and four year) who also were nominated.
We are very honored to have been chosen amongst the best literary magazines in the country, and the acknowledgment is a true testament to the great creative work of NECC students. Many thanks to the ACP and their judges, and we look forward to the results of the final placements in October!

First Parnassus Meeting Reminder
Quick reminder that the first fall 2009 Parnassus meeting will take place on Friday, September 18th, from 12-1 PM in Conference Room C314F. If you're interested in Parnassus and would like to contribute or join our staff, please come to this informative meeting to see what Parnassus is all about! Bring along anyone you may know who is interested in writing, editing, art, photography, publishing, or any other creative pursuit. Hope to see you then!

Parnassus end of summer news wrap-up
With summer coming to a fast close, and the new school year around the corner, it's time to put the Parnassus wheels in gear for another new issue.
Our 2009 issue has so far been a huge success, flying off of the stands and garnering many rave reviews. We have entered the '09 issue in a number of national literary magazine competitions, including the CCHA awards, in which we won second place in the East, and the ASPA awards, in which we won best gallery and first place with merit, both last year, among several others. As soon as any positive returns come in (hopefully), we'll report the news here.
A new semester means a call for a new Parnassus staff! We'll be holding our first meeting at the end of the second week of school, on Friday, September 18th from 12-1pm in room C314F. Parnassus is technically a club, and joining our staff is a lot of fun and not a big commitment. We meet about three to five times a semester, and staff members get to choose the art and writing that will be printed, as well as helping with fundraising and marketing of all things Parnassus throughout the semester. The 2009 Parnassus is released!
The 2009 edition of Parnassus will be available at the NECC Haverhill campus by the end of the week of May 4th. We are incredibly excited about this edition, as it is without a doubt the most impressive issue yet. The work we received from NECC's creative community was outstanding, and we had a very difficult time narrowing down the chosen works, but the pieces that made it in are incredibly well done, and we're happy to share them with all of NECC and beyond. Keep an eye out for the new issue, which we think will impress even the most jaded of literature fiends and art impresarios, not to mention the nomadic hallway wanderers who happen by our little book every year. Let us know what you think!
The 2009 Parnassus release party and open mic is a huge success!
We held our annual release party and open mic reading this past Monday, May 4th in the NECC Tech Center, and the turnout and support was overwhelming! A huge crowd came out to celebrate the release of the 2009 Parnassus and to come and share their work with the crowd. A great assortment of authors came to read their poetry and short fiction works, including our featured faculty guest author, Hannah Larrabee. Many thanks to all who came to read and all who came to listen and support Parnassus!
